Alimony: Spousal Support

Updated: Sep 15, 2023

The next area of your case is alimony, also known as spousal support. An alimony claim requires a showing of need and ability to pay. In other words, if you are making a claim for alimony, you must show that you have a need for support and that your spouse has the ability to pay support.

There are different types of alimony that a Court can award including: temporary, bridge-the-gap, rehabilitative, or durational, alimony. The different types and amount of alimony are based on a number of factors including but not limited to the length of the marriage, the financial resources of the spouses, and the standard of living established during the marriage.
